Set Them Free

Ein großes Ereignis des Jahres 2005 war die von den Mainstream-Medien fast nicht berichtete Bewegung von Chinesen, die sich von der Chinesischen Kommunistischen Partei (KPCh) abwendeten. Ausgelöst durch die Zeitung „The Epoch Times“, die im Herbst 2004 ein außerordentlich einflussreiches Buch mit dem Titel "Neun Kommentare über die kommunistische Partei" veröffentlichte, begannen erst Hunderte, dann Tausende, dann Hunderttausende von Chinesen öffentlich aus dieser politischen Organisation auszutreten.

Die Kommunistischen Partei Chinas ist seit der Machtergreifung im Jahr 1949 verantwortlich für den Tod von 60-80 Millionen Chinesen. Anfang des Jahres 2007 ist die Zahl der Menschen, die sich von der KPCh und ihren angeschlossenen Organisationen lossagten, bereits auf 17,405,392 gestiegen. Das Lied "Set Them Free" wurde geschrieben um auf einer großen Kundgebung beim Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC im Juli 2005, welche diese Bewegung unterstützt, aufgeführt zu werden. Im März 2006 wurde "Set Them Free" für das beste "Lyric Writing" (das beste Textschreiben) auf dem 7. alljährlichen Great American Song Wettbewerb eine Ehren-Auszeichnung verliehen.
